Depart from Dar es Salaam at 05.30 for Udzungwa National Park. Arrival time will be in time late afternoon/early evening. A short walk in the park and overnight at Twiga Motel, Full board.
After breakfast visit the rubber plantation and learnt how rubber is grown, tapped and manufactured to various end products that we use on a daily basis. At 11.00 register, at the main gate and start hiking up to Sanje waterfalls and overnight at campsite, full board.
After breakfast and registration at the main gate, begin the trek from Sonjo village to Mwanihana, the second highest peak in Udzungwa and overnight a Campsite, full board.
The next morning you’ll start the hike early to ascend the 1250m to the peak. The path goes up and down for the first section along a grassy ridge. At 1500m, the ascend is very steep. At around 1900m you suddenly leave the forest, and enter an area of bamboo where, you can clearly see the three humps that make up the top of Mwanihana and stunning views across the Kilombero Valley. Overnight a Campsite, full board.
Early morning descent and to the Motel for refreshing shower and lunch. Immediately after, departure for Dar es Salaam.
UDZUNGWA NATIONAL PARK opened to the public 1992 and one of the most beautiful wilderness areas in Tanzania. Covering an area of 1900 sq km., the uniqueness of this park lies in its biodiversity in hosting a variety of animals and plant species not found anywhere else in the world. The red Colobus and the Sane crested manbrey, elephants, buffalos, leopards, and sable antelopes are some of the residents in this park. A good range of birdlife is present which includes Rufus winged sunbird, Iringa akalat, Lagden’s bush shrike and Udzungwa partridge.
