Itinerary

Day 1

Meet and greet at the Julius Nyerere Int’ll airport and transfer to Hotel, Johari Rotana, bed, breakfast and dinner.

Day 2

Depart from the Julius Nyerere Int’ll Dar es Salaam at 09.25 arriving at Kigoma at 12.50.  Transfer by boat to Gombe. This is a 2.5 hour ride on Lake Tanganyika. Stunning scenery and expansive views across the Lake.  After lunch go for your first tracking of chimpanzee and overnight at Gombe Tented Camp, full board.

 

Day 3 & 4

After breakfast, you will begin the day by hiking to the Kakombe Falls and Jane’s peak.   After lunch, depart for the late afternoon chimpanzee tracking and overnight at Gombe Tented Camp, full board.

Gombe is the smallest park in Tanzania was established 1962. It has  52 sq km of forest running along the hills of the eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika. It is locate 20 km north of Kigoma and 100km north of Mahale N. Park. Gombe Stream is best known as the place where Jane Goodall did her pioneering studies on chimpanzees, beginning in the 1960s and continuing until this day.

The tracking usually starts in the morning from 08.00 and this can vary from half an hour to four hours depending on where the chimpanzees will be located. As you track the chimpanzees in the thick forest, you will pass through beautiful sceneries and hear thrilling sounds of birds and insects. Apart from chimpanzee there are other species of primates in the park. Colobus monkeys, red tail money, baboons, forest pigs and dik dik. 

A certain level of fitness is required as there are some steep and challenging routes along the way.

Day 5

Return to Kigoma after breakfast by boat to catch the 13.10 flight. On arrival in Dar es Salaam, Connect with the late afternoon flight to Selous. On arrival meet and greet and transfer to Nje Bush Camp,  full board.

Day 6

Accompanied by an armed ranger, we start the day with a walking safari followed by afternoon game drive. The walking safari starts as early as 06.30, bringing you close to some of the smallest animals and plants that you would not see on a vehicle game drive.  The crisp fresh African air mixed with the wild smell of the animals evokes your smell sense to the intoxication unique bush smell of Africa. Thereafter with packed lunch, you will go for a full day safaris Overnight at Nje Bush Camp, full board.

Day 7

Early morning game drive from 06.30- 13.30. Return to the camp for a hot lunch and at 16.00 you will go for the evening boat safari. Return to the Banda at 19.00 in time for dinner and overnight at Nje Bush Camp, full board.

Full day game drive and overnight at Nje Bush Camp, full board.

Selous Game Reserve covering 50,000sq km, this is the largest game reserve in the Africa. The reserve supports an enormous number of elephants, buffalos and wildebeests. Other rare species include the African Hunting dog. The park provides home for some of the last remaining black rhinos.

Day 9

Depart with the morning flight to Ruaha arrival will be late afternoon. Meet and greet with your guide and continued on with a game drive as you drive to the Camp, overnight at Ikuka Safari Camp, full board.

Day 10

Full day game drive in Ruaha. Your guide will guide you through the park in search of the elusive wild dogs, leopards, lions and herds of elephants and buffaloes. After picnic lunch, continue with late afternoon/evening game drive before departing for the lodge and overnight at Ikuka Safari Camp, full board.

Day 11

Full day game drive in Ruaha and overnight in Ikuka Safari Camp, full board.

Day 12

Early morning game drive from 06.30 returning to the camp for a hot lunch, overnight at Ikuka Safari Camp, full board.

RUAHA NATIONAL PARK, Tanzania’s biggest park and host to a number of animals which rare or absent in the North. The rare animals include the African Wild dog, roan and sable antelope and the greater kudu. The Great Ruaha River, which provides life to the park, flows through the eastern side of the park and is home to hippos, crocodiles and a variety of water birds.

Day 13

Depart after breakfast for Dar es Salaam and transfer to the airport for your flight home.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Iringa, F/B – 16 Dec

Perched in the scenic Southern Highlands, Iringa offers a refreshing start to your safari. Wander through its lively market, where colorful fabrics and fresh produce tempt you at every turn. The town’s German colonial architecture adds a charming historical touch, making your strolls through the streets a blend of culture and history.

Just a short drive away is the Isimila Stone Age Site, where towering sandstone pillars and ancient tools transport you back in time. It’s a fascinating stop for history lovers and nature enthusiasts alike. After a day of exploration, unwind with some Nyama Choma (grilled meat) at a local spot, perfectly paired with a cold Kilimanjaro beer. Iringa is a delightful introduction to the adventures that lie ahead.

 

Day 2 – Kitulo, F/B – 17 Dec

Embrace the breath-taking beauty of Kitulo National Park!  Known as the “Serengeti of Flowers,” this hidden gem in Southern Tanzania is a floral wonderland you won’t want to miss.  From November to April, the rolling hills burst into a kaleidoscope of colours, with over 350 species of wildflowers in full bloom, creating a natural masterpiece that’s perfect for avid photographers and nature enthusiasts.

But Kitulo is not just about flowers; it’s also home to diverse wildlife and stunning landscapes.  The park offers fantastic hiking opportunities, where you might spot the rare blue monkey or explore pristine montane grasslands.

 

Day 3 – Mzuzu – 18 Dec

Discover Mzuzu! A vibrant city in northern Malawi!  Mzuzu is not just another city—it’s where stunning green hills meet lively local culture. You’ll be greeted with views so beautiful, even your camera will say, “Wow!”

But that’s not all—Mzuzu’s local markets are a treasure trove of colorful crafts and tasty treats. From mouthwatering street food to quirky souvenirs, you’ll find it all while soaking in the friendly vibes of this lively city. If you get lost, just follow the laughter and delicious smells!

Fun fact: The name Mzuzu comes from the Tumbuka language, meaning “the place where things are found” or “place of discovery.” So get ready to discover amazing views, fun adventures, and unforgettable memories!

 

Day 4 – Drive to Lilongwe H/B – 19 Dec

Your journey from Mzuzu to Lilongwe is an adventure in itself, as you wind through the lush landscapes of northern Malawi. The road cuts through rolling hills and verdant tea plantations, offering a glimpse of rural life as you pass by small villages and bustling roadside markets. This drive is more than just a means of getting from A to B; it’s a moving panorama of Malawi’s natural beauty, with every bend revealing a new postcard-worthy scene.

As you make your way south, the scenery gradually shifts from the highlands to the flatter plains that surround Lilongwe. Keep an eye out for baobab trees dotting the landscape, their iconic silhouettes a symbol of Africa’s timeless allure. Along the way, you might spot locals cycling with impossibly balanced loads of firewood or produce, a testament to the resourcefulness and resilience of Malawians. Day 5 – Lilongwe, B/B – 20 Dec

Explore the vibrant heart of Malawi in Lilongwe!  This dynamic capital city offers a captivating blend of modernity and culture that’s sure to leave you enchanted.  Stroll through the bustling streets and be greeted by the warm smiles of locals as you discover colourful markets, where you can shop for handmade crafts, fresh produce, and unique souvenirs.

Don’t miss a visit to the beautifully landscaped Lilongwe Wildlife Centre, a sanctuary for rescued animals, or the historic Old Town area with its colonial-era architecture. And when it’s time to unwind, Lilongwe’s cafes and restaurants offer delicious Malawian cuisine and international flavours.

 

Day 6 – Pateuke, F/B – 21 Dec

Nestled in Malawi’s central highlands, is a hidden gem where time slows down, and nature takes center stage. This tranquil town offers a peaceful escape with its lush surroundings and cool, crisp air—a perfect antidote to the heat of the plains. Take a leisurely stroll through the local tea and coffee plantations, where the gentle rustle of leaves and the sweet aroma of crops fill the air. Dinner is a culinary journey, featuring a buffet of local delicacies. Day 12 – Bulawayo, H/B – 27 Dec

Bulawayo, the City of Kings, was   originally the home of Lobengula, the last of the Matebele Kings,  is the second largest city in Zimbabwe and was also the centre of the three Matabeleland provinces – North and South, and Bulawayo.

The citys architectural  diversity, a mix of Victorian and modern architecture highlights the rich history and its evolution into a vibrant urban center making it one of the country’s most attractive cities.  The City is a getaway to near by tourist attractions  Hwange National Park, the Victoria Falls, Khami Ruins, the Matobo Hills.

The Bulawayo Railway Museum houses  a collection of vintage locomotives, carriages, and artifacts that illustrate the country’s railway heritage and its role in shaping transportation and trade. Its oldest exhibits date back to 1897, and include Cecil Rhodes’ personal railway coach.

 

Day 13 – Harare, B/B – 28 Dec

Day 16 – Nkhata Bay Beach, B/B – 31 Dec
