The founder
Leina Lemomo
Founder & CEO
The first African woman to establish a mobile safari camp in Tanzania's Selous Game Reserve, now Nyerere National Park.
Our story began long before Msafiri Travels was founded. As a nine-year-old Girl Scout, Leina discovered a love for the outdoors, adventure, and discovery that would shape her life's work. Growing up in the nomadic Maasai community, she developed a profound respect for nature, wildlife, and the traditions of living in harmony with the land. Her family life between the city and rural Maasai land further deepened her love for travel. Those early experiences continue to define the values at the heart of Msafiri Travels today: authenticity, curiosity, respect, and meaningful human connections.
Over the years, Leina has travelled through 33 African countries, exploring diverse landscapes, cultures, and conservation areas while gaining the knowledge and perspective that distinguish every safari we create. One of her earliest achievements was leading a six-month overland expedition from Amsterdam to Harare, an extraordinary journey that reflected both her adventurous spirit and determination. She later became the first African woman to establish a mobile safari camp in Tanzania's Selous Game Reserve (now known as Nyerere National Park), reinforcing her commitment to creating immersive and authentic wilderness experiences.
Founded in Dar es Salaam, Msafiri Travels has grown from Leina's vision into a team of experienced safari specialists, expert guides, operations professionals, and local hosts who share one purpose: creating seamless, personalised journeys across East and Southern Africa.
